My Story

Thank you so much for visiting my website!

Gary Schreiner (5)To explain why I do what I do, I have to share a little of my own journey.

I was a bright and talented child with a loving family, but also very shy and self-conscious.  I was desperate to fit in and be accepted, and terrified of failure and rejection.  I had some good friends, but was also picked on and bullied.  I developed an ulcer by age 18, and suffered severe anxiety attacks in college.   At the same time, I loved to learn, and was blessed to gain knowledge and skills in a broad range of areas – art, writing, theater, music, science, technology, sports, etc.  I also had an innate drive to do things my own way.  The tension between the desire to achieve and persistent self doubt was a constant source of stress.

This dichotomy continued into my professional career.  I tried hard to fit the mold of “get an education, get a job, work hard, make a living.”  I performed well in my jobs, and was loyal to my employers, but somehow I constantly felt trapped.  Consistent with my curious nature, I developed skills in a range of fields – business, information technology, international relations, law, conflict resolution, security, social sciences, music, and others – which enriched me personally and professionally, but also brought on the dilemma of too many possible career paths. Finally, I landed in what I thought was my dream job, applying a broad range of my skills while helping people at a difficult time in their lives.

I served in my “dream position” faithfully for years, until…BURNOUT!

I found myself in a deep hole.  I now dreaded going to a job I had loved.  It affected every aspect of my life.  One day I had a wake up call.  Events came together to say “Gary!  You have to make a change!”  So, like the good nerd that I am, I dove into the research on resilience, happiness, change and other fields.  I made some decisions in my life, applied what I had learned, and found my way out of my hole.  In the process I became happier, more confident, more optimistic, and more comfortable with who I was.

I decided that the principles, practices and frameworks I had learned and developed needed to be shared.  I saw the positive effect in my life and the lives of others.  To put it simply, it was way cool.

After some evolution, I began helping people shift their mindset, eliminate their barriers, and live with more hope, purpose, confidence, connection, vitality and achievement.

If you are passionate about what you do, if you want to make a difference in the world around you and are equally passionate about learning, growing and having the best life you can, then I’d love to work with you.

Don’t settle for just surviving – THRIVE.
